UNIcert III/1 English for Economics, Business Studies and Social Sciences
Requirements / Voraussetzungen
The course is open to students with a placement test score of 70-79 points. Entry is also possible for students who have completed the UNIcert II/2 English for Academic Purposes course.
Course Description / Kursbeschreibung
This is the first semester of a two-semester academic English course that prepares students for the UNIcert III exam. This course will use Units 1-6 of New Language Leader Advanced Course Book with MyEnglishLab, ISBN 9781447961420. Students are required to buy the book (see Moodle for discount code).
Students will take up pressing economic and social issues in class discussions, simulations, debates, and short academic texts. Home study including reading, listening, vocabulary, and grammar work will enable students to take part in these activities, practising and refining their language ability.
Materials / Material
In addition to New Language Leader Advanced Course Book with MyEnglishLab, we will use excerpts from Business English Handbook Advanced and articles from source such as The Conversation.
Testing / Leistungserfassung
The final course grade will consist of:

6 credits (Leistungspunkte) or 6 ECTS points if these requirements are met: 80 % attendance and active course participation; a score of at least 55% in each section of the course test.
